Company History
Rob Finlay, who previously work for the lending units of Deutsche Bank and Credit Suisse First Boston, developed the idea to launch Commercial Defeasance LLC in 2000, when a borrower expressed to him his frustration with the process for defeasing a securitized mortgage loan. From there, Finlay lined up a cadre of firms to facilitate the defeasance process and standardized certain documents necessary to complete a defeasance, thereby making the once costly and time intensive task of defeasaing a loan easier and cheaper for the borrowers, servicers, accountants and attorneys who participate in the typical defeasance.
Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, LLC is a professional structured finance company that provides a single source for cost effective and efficient defeasances by managing the entire defeasance Process.

- Defeased several thousand CMBS loans – many more than all of our competitors combined
- Closed numerous defeasance transactions with every master servicer and their counsel
- Defeased loans on all property types nationwide
- Closed many of the largest and most complex defeasances to date
